HARI RAJU
Getting Paddle for Nature moving by covering the first 500km, Hari, 44, thinks this is the perfect outdoor pursuit for Malaysians, who are historically linked to sea activities. "We are surrounded by the sea, and we need to reconnect to it. I’m quite surprised that we’re not into water sports because we’re surrounded by water. We have so many beautiful islands," he says.
But to undertake such an expedition? "That’s why I wanted to introduce this," he says. "People have lost their sense of adventure, Malaysians have lost the sense of just 'going for it'. We are always waiting for someone else to do it somewhere else, and we just read about the person and we follow. So most Malaysians never come up with stuff on their own.
"We’re capable of it, but we always look for support or give excuses. It’s about time we went out there and showed other people that we, too, can do stuff. This is just one of it, there is a lot of adventure just waiting... waiting for someone to do it."
